Cambiaso Clean Sweep
By Ron Allen
The US Open is about to get underway and all bets are on one player and one team to take the title again this year. Defending champion Valiente has shown prowess and poise throughout the season with significant victories in every tournament.
Their leader, Adolfo Cambiaso (10), is backed up by Facundo Pieres (10) a successful champion in his own right. The architect who put them together has built a polo empire unlike any other in modern day polo history. Bob Jornayvaz (2) started his dream team in 2012 when he picked up Adolfo from Crab Orchard.
This year alone Adolfo, wearing the Valiente blue, has won every tournament he has played in. The Ylvisaker Cup in February, the Whitney, Butler and Sterling Cups in March. His Gold Cup win over Flex-Jet makes it an unprecedented five titles in a row. With the Open now within reach it appears this, soon to be 43-year-old, polo phenom is having a season of all seasons as Valiente strives for their third U.S. Open title and a real shot at the Triple Crown.
